The processing of our refrigerated milks and our shelf-stable milks is the same. It is the filling and temperature that are different. Shelf stability is achieved by the method of fill itself and the temperature at which it is filled.
For our 48oz bottles, we package using ESL (extended shelf life) filling equipment. This means our milk products have extended shelf life under refrigerated conditions - up to 120 days at the moment. Our product is thermally processed and then filled 'aseptically' into the bottle. There are different ‘classes’ of aseptic fillers. We are using a filler suitable for refrigerated products for that specific product.
For our carton products, the filling temperature in the aseptic process is higher in order to properly sterilize the package and the product for an even longer shelf-life.
